call around (about someone or something)

to telephone a number of different people in succession about something. I'll call around about Tom and see if I can find out anything.

1. To telephone several people, usually to get or give some information: I called around to all the hospitals trying to locate my injured friend.
2. To invite someone for a visit, especially by calling them on the telephone: I've been trying to call you around for dinner, but you never seem to be home!
