To allow someone another opportunity to do something or to prove his or her ability or worth. I know I really messed up that last account, but please, give me another chance! Although she was furious at John for his infidelity, she decided to give him another chance. My professor gave me another chance to complete my exams after she found out I'd been struggling with depression.
