News about something or someone inevitably reaches other people. The "news" is often a rumor of some sort. I know that Julia wanted to keep her break-up a secret, but considering how word gets around at this school, people were going to find out about it in no time. A: "How did you find out I won the contest?" B: "Word gets around!"
