Derived from PYTHIOS, a name of Apollo, combined with Greek αγορα (agora) "assembly, marketplace". This was the name of a 6th-century BC Greek philosopher and mathematician from Samos. He was the founder of a school of philosophy whose members believed that numbers described the universe.
