Ambassador of Morocco

obsolete A derisive phrase coined by Mary Anne Clarke (1776–1852) referring to a man who made women's shoes, possibly alluding to morocco leather, which is commonly used in the making of such. Though she is on quite friendly terms when buying shoes from me, in public she insists on addressing me as the Ambassador of Morocco.
