God sends meat and the devil sends cooks

God sends meat and the devil sends cooks

God provides positive and useful things, but the devil only provides inferior things. Why "cooks" has a negative connotation is not clear; it's possible the cooks represent the notion of human folly corrupting God's perfect offerings (i.e. preparing the meat poorly and ruining it). I'm used to taking the good with the bad. After all, God sends meat and the devil sends cooks, right?
