not have (one's) heart in (something)

To not be emotionally invested or enthusiastic about something; to have no drive or will to do something. The score was very close during the first half, but as the home team has slipped further behind you can tell that they don't have their hearts in the game anymore. I tried to write a novel after I left college, but in truth I just didn't have my heart in it enough to finish one.
