to gather people or things together. Let's see if we can get both sides together and discuss this. I want to get Tom and Sharon together for a conference.

to arrange a party or other gathering for a certain time. (Fixed order.) I'll try to get a meeting together for Friday afternoon. I'm sure we can get something together.

 (with someone) (on someone or something)

1. and get together (with someone) (about someone or something Lit. to meet with someone about someone or something. I would like to get together with you on this Wilson matter. What would be a good time for you? Let's get together on Fred and his department at our next meeting.

2. Fig. to agree with someone about someone or something. I would like to get together with you on this, but we are still nowhere near agreement. I want to get together on price with the suppliers.

1. Accumulate, gather, as in Go get all the firewood together: [c. 1400]

2. Come together, assemble, as in Let's get together next week. The variant get together with means "meet with someone," as in I can't get together with them today but I'll have time next week. [Late 1600s]

3. Arrive at an agreement, as in The jury was unable to get together on a verdict.

1. To come together as a group; meet: Let's get together for lunch next week. The president got together with his advisers to discuss the bill.

2. To bring some set of people or things together; gather some things or people together: She got the children together for a game of soccer. My best friend from high school got me together with the woman I later married.

3. To organize something or sort something out, especially a state of affairs: If you don't get your romantic life together, you'll never be happy.

4. To agree to cooperate: The two parties finally got together after weeks of debating. The staff got together to buy me a retirement gift. We got together with a technology company to offer our customers Internet services.
