To delay or postpone something indefinitely or for a long time; to procrastinate. Primarily heard in Ireland. I've been meaning to send in my college applications, but I keep putting it on the long finger. Buying life insurance might not be something you want to think about, but if you're planning on starting a family, you shouldn't be putting it on the long finger.
