say a few words

To give a short speech or present a brief account of something. I've asked Ms. Thompson to say a few words before the assembly begins. Later in the book, I will deal with Samuel Beckett's influence on the avant-garde, but first, I'd like to say a few words about his early childhood in Ireland.
