up with the chickens

up with the chickens

Awake at a particularly early hour, especially at or before sunrise (i.e., the hour when chickens wake). I'm sorry, but I have to get going. I have to be up with the chickens tomorrow. Ma is up with the chickens every day to prepare breakfast for the farmhands.
